About Static Shock
Complete First Season

Static Shock is an animated superhero television series produced by The WB Television Network. It is a family-friendly adaptation of the Milestone Media comic, Static, with original creators Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan as a part of the writing team. The show premiered on Kids' WB on September 23, 2000 and ran for four seasons. It ended on May 22, 2004 with a total of 52 half-hour episodes.

The story is set in an American town called Dakota City. Virgil Hawkins was just a regular — if not a bit geeky — 14-year-old trying to survive the ups and downs of high school. When a gang war at the city’s docks results in the explosion of experimental gasses, Dakota is suddenly full of meta-humans.

Having been in the wrong place at the wrong time, Virgil now has the ability to generate, absorb, and control electricity. Unfortunately, the gas also gave others who were there that night powers of their own — and several of them have decided to use them to wreak havoc around Dakota. Virgil opts to use his own powers for good, donning a disguise and taking the superhero name "Static". With help from his best friend, confidant and partner, Richie, Virgil sets out to save the day.

Richard Osgood Foley known more commonly as Richie, is the best friend and confidant of Static. For much of the series, he was the only one who knew of Virgil's double life. It is later discovered that he was indirectly affected by the Big Bang and has developed superpowers of his own.
